The Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia officially joined the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA) as an Observer member on February 10, 2026.

WLGA was established in 1987 and was granted Special Consultative Status by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in 1989. It is an international organization representing the liquefied gas sector.

The Association brings together more than 300 governmental and international organizations, private, and professional associations from 125 countries worldwide. It carries out activities in the areas of gas safety, standardization, market development, and sustainable energy policy.

In August of last year, James Rockall, CEO & Managing Director of the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA), visited Mongolia and exchanged views on the current status of Mongolia’s gas  sector and on potential opportunities for future cooperation in the gas industry. https://mrpam.gov.mn/news/5873

By joining as an Observer member, opportunities have been created to align Mongolia’s gas sector policies and regulatory framework with international best practices, enhance information exchange, and expand cooperation. In particular, this membership enables:

·         Studying international best practices in liquefied gas safety, market regulation, and standards;

·         Improving national policies and regulatory frameworks based on research, reports, and market data;

·         Strengthening official cooperation at the international level;

·         Expanding opportunities to participate in conference, seminars, webinars, meetings, and consultative events.

This membership is of significant importance in supporting the development of Mongolia’s liquefied gas sector, improving safety and standards implementation, and advancing international cooperation to a new level.
