“MONGOLIA MINING WEEK 2022” Biggest conference in minerals sector
100 years ago, on December 25, 1922, since the decision was made that Nalaikh coal mine become a state-owned mine, this day is considered as the beginning of the modern mining industry in Mongolia. As part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the mining industry, the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry has organizing this event "Mongolian Mining Week 2022" with Oyu Tolgoi Company for the first time.
The event, which will be held in Ulaanbaatar on September 19-23, 2022, will be attended by Parlament members, Government members, representatives of government institutions, ambassadors of foreign countries, international organizations in the mining industry, and foreign investors, suppliers, private sectors, civil societies, industry academics, media organizations and more than 400 guests and representatives are participating in this event.
The Minister of Mining and Heavy Industries, J. Ganbaatar, delivered welcome speech at the opening session and said "It is a critical moment for us to create guarantees for sustainable development that country’s socio- economic guide, wealth creator mining industry is on the time to evaluate the efforts of the last century, determines the direction of the next century, increases competitiveness by intensifying the development of the sector, transition from mining to processing. The Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry has implementing a policy based on the principles of EXPLORATION-MINING-PROCESSING-SALE-DISTRIBUTION, and in this context, we implement direct policy to consistently support responsible mining and protect domestic and foreign investors rights, give opportunities and confidence to the private sector, to increase responsibility and cooperate, and increase the competitiveness of the industry. Also, there are 3 main factors limiting the development of the mineral’s sector: "the number of exploration license issuance is decreasing, foreign and domestic investors belief is decreasing and decreasing number of investment, the protest against mining is increasing, which can hold back the normal operation of the industry, and on the other hand, there is still existing illegal and irresponsible mining. The Minister expressed his determination to work to solve this problem, and expressed his confidence that the participants of the conference will identify and discuss these issues and come up with creative ideas and solutions.
This is the event for the first time in Mongolia, the mineral’s industry has gathered for a week to stimulate the mining sector in order to intensify the post-Covid economic recovery, to attract foreign investors, to support domestic enterprises, and to look for opportunities to add strength and leverage to the policies of the Government of Mongolia.
